Projectdetails

Introduction

Changing hydro-meteorological conditions due to climate change, intensification of land and water use, and lack of adaptation measures are among the contributors to water-related risks, such as landslides or flash floods. Although water management has been changing its approach over the past decade and new technologies to improve flood risk prevention have been introduced, recurring flood incidents demonstrate deficiencies in forecasting flood risks and threat locations.

Challenges in Water Management

Authorities responsible for local water governance and members of the general public, such as farmers and landowners, lack the knowledge and capacity to address the challenges posed by the need for climate change adaptation.

Project Overview

The FLOPRES project proposes an integrated solution to support:

  1. Flood modelling
  2. Forecasting
  3. Early warnings
  4. Integration and analysis of multimodal data

This support is aimed at authorities responsible for water and emergency management at all levels, as well as private individuals who might be impacted by the consequences of climate change-related hazardous events.

Objectives

Our intention is also to raise awareness among the public and various stakeholders on a nature-based solution to adapt to climate change. We aim to make local communities and authorities work together efficiently under the same objective.

Expected Outcomes

The project will contribute to:

  • Better-informed and more nature-based friendly decision-making processes in water management
  • Improved management of water risks and disasters
  • Increased knowledge and strengthened collaboration among stakeholders, experts, and the public

As a result, the resilience of municipalities and their citizens to climate-change-related events will be strengthened, and the risks stemming from climate change will be lessened.
