Projectdetails
Introduction
On 18 July 2024, Ursula von der Leyen presented her Political Guidelines to the first plenary of the new European Parliament. She underlined her commitment to the European Green Deal (EGD) - its objectives, implementation, and further development and rollout through a Clean Industrial Deal and a range of other priorities.
EEB's Commitment
The EEB, as Europe’s largest network of environmental citizens’ organisations, made the EGD its central priority over the last five years and remains deeply committed to contributing to the EGD’s implementation, further development, and roll-out.
Engagement with Stakeholders
The EEB’s engagement with key stakeholders supported many of the EGD successes across environmental and climate files. In 2023-24, the EEB also developed ‘The European Pact for the Future: a green and social deal for a one-planet economy’ as a practical vision for the 2024-29 legislative cycle. The recommendations are coherent with the vision outlined in the Political Guidelines and EGD.
Future Plans
In 2025-26, the EEB will seek an effective implementation and rollout of the EGD in line with the EEB’s vision and recommendations for a green and social deal for a one-planet economy that supports:
- The Clean Industrial Deal
- The wider set of environment and climate promises in the Political Guidelines
- The Strategic Agenda
- The 8EAP
- International MEA commitments
Engaging Key Stakeholders
The EEB will engage with key stakeholders to support a progressive EU agenda, addressing gaps, needs for ambition and coherence, and implementation. The EEB will continue to engage at regional and global levels and support policies in line with its vision in neighbouring countries.
Strengthening Organisational Base
The EEB also plans to further strengthen its organisational base by:
- Continuing to expand and consolidate its membership
- Further diversifying its funding sources
- Upgrading its communications tools
- Implementing its recently improved project and finance management systems.
