Projectdetails

In 2022, the EEB will continue to push for greater ambition in the concrete policies being rolled out under the European Green Deal in its third year.

Introduction

To this end, we will engage with the Commission, Parliament, and Council, in the latter case working closely with the French, Czech, and (in anticipation of 2023) Swedish EU Presidencies. Our goal is to channel input from our network of 170+ member organisations, representing some 30 million individual members and supporters, into EU decision-making processes.

Focus Areas

Among the specific policy files that will be in focus in the year are:

  1. The co-decision processes for the Fit-for-55 package
  2. The nature restoration law
  3. Several circular economy instruments (on eco-design, batteries, waste shipment, etc.)
  4. Upcoming reviews/revisions of:
    • Industrial Emissions Directive
    • Priority Substances Directive
    • REACH
    • Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive
    • Ambient Air Quality Directives
    • Environmental Crime Directive

Advocacy Efforts

We will also advocate for sustainability within the Conference on the Future of Europe and build on any useful outcomes. Additionally, we will work with our members in the neighbourhood countries to increase environmental ambition there, e.g., through the Green Agenda for Western Balkans. At the global level, we will actively engage in UNEA5.2, where we will advocate for a new global instrument on plastic pollution, and Stockholm+50.

Organizational Growth

The EEB’s growth has accelerated significantly over the past three years. Managing that growth in a sustainable way is therefore a new albeit positive challenge, especially against the backdrop of the pandemic.

New Working Modes

Having learned much about the pros and cons of remote working, in 2022 we will be developing new modes of working in the post-pandemic era that simultaneously promote high-quality output and staff wellbeing.

System Overhaul

A major overhaul of our financial and project management systems is expected to reach the critical implementation phase in 2022. We will also be further upgrading our communications tools and methods.
