Projectdetails

This project builds on CMW’s unique expertise in carbon pricing and climate policy, as well as our proven track record of policy work with intergovernmental bodies, such as the UN and the EU.

Introduction

CMW exists to ensure that carbon pricing and other climate policies slash pollution and drive a just transition towards net-zero-carbon societies. Given the urgency of halting the climate breakdown, we campaign for carbon pricing climate policies that fulfill their promise and operate in wise combination with regulatory and incentivizing measures.

Strategic Plan

We present a 12-month strategic plan with evidence-based advocacy to improve climate policies. This plan focuses on:

  1. Turning complex issues into comprehensible messages.
  2. Helping people understand and influence those policies.

We carry out this work with our partners in Europe and internationally, combining policy advocacy with a series of activities aimed at raising awareness, knowledge development, and compliance with EU and International law.

European Level Focus

At the European level, eyes will remain fixed on the implementation of the revised ETS (including its extension to road transport and building) and the introduction of CBAM - together one key pillar of EU climate policy.

At the same time, preparations for the adoption of the EU’s 2040 climate targets are underway. With the new mandates of the EP and EC coming up, it will emerge whether the green transition will be pursued with the same ambition and dedication.

International Level Focus

At the international level, the UNFCCC process on international carbon markets will remain focused on the implementation of the Article 6 agreement struck at COP26 in Glasgow, as the first carbon credit trades are starting to be signed.

In parallel, the international transport sector (aviation and shipping) will see enhanced EU action to price its carbon pollution through the EU ETS. Our aim is to ensure this positively impacts ongoing discussions on carbon pricing policies at the ICAO and IMO.
