Projectdetails

Introduction

Technical assistance project for SIP LIFE COOLREGION focuses on quality assurance of the Concept note and Full proposal of SIP with emphasis on stakeholder involvement, use of good practice and support for demonstration and pilot activities.

Project Name Significance

The name of the strategic project refers to two important aspects:

  • COOL in the most direct sense of the word means cold, and thus refers to the need to address heat waves, extreme weather events, and drought associated with rising temperatures.
  • COOL is also CO2Less, referring to the fact that the SMR sets a quantified commitment to reduce CO2 emissions and is working systematically to meet it.

Project Aim

The aim of the technical assistance project is to create a strategic project that will directly and complementarily support systemic mitigation and adaptation actions in the South Moravian Region in line with the defined objectives of the Climate Action Plan 2025-2035 (with a strategic outlook to 2050 - climate neutrality target), thus enabling its full and effective implementation.

Climate Action Plan Overview

The Climate Action Plan covers the entire territory of the South Moravian Region (SMR):

  • Area: 7,187.8 km²
  • Population: 1,195,327 inhabitants
  • Municipalities: 673

This territory is the most affected by the impacts of climate change in the Czech Republic, has a low level of self-sufficiency in electricity and heating, but on the other hand has the highest potential for the development of renewable energy sources (RES).

Implementation Basis

The SIP sets a key basis for the implementation of the Climate Action Plan, as well as creates the conditions for further independent action of stakeholders. This includes:

  1. Strengthening the data base
  2. Technical assistance
  3. Capacity building in the territory

The search and design of the necessary financing mechanisms, whether it is a climate-targeted use of the region's own resources or the attraction of external resources, with an emphasis on strengthening private resources and investments, is also a natural part of the implementation preparation.
