Technical assistance for the preparation of the NatAdapt SK project
The LIFE TA NatAdapt SK project aims to enhance Slovakia's capacity for effective climate adaptation in various sectors through improved technical and administrative support.
Projectdetails
Introduction
Climate change adaptation and mitigation is a major public policy issue in Slovakia. The annual State of the Environment Reports of the Slovak Republic and the periodic national reports on climate change provide ample evidence of the already tangible changes of climate and their impact on nature and society.
Strategic Documents
The Strategy of the Slovak Republic for Adaptation to Climate Change, update 2018 (NAS) and The National Action Plan (NAAP) for implementation of NAS are the main strategic documents at the national level. They aim to improve Slovakia's readiness to face the adverse effects of climate change and identify short-term and medium-term adaptation measures for the following periods:
- 2021-2023
- 2024-2027
Policy Responsibility
The Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic has the central policy responsibility for climate change adaptation and mitigation, including for the targeted NAS and NAAP.
Future Developments
The Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic considers further updating the national adaptation strategy in view of the policy developments and scientific progress at global, EU, and national levels since 2018. The ambition includes:
- Further harmonisation of medium and long-term adaptation priorities and approaches
- Ensuring alignment with the EU Adaptation Strategy (2021)
The long-term priorities and approaches also need to address the adaptation-related requirements of the European Climate Law (2021) and enable defining the country’s pathway towards climate resilience by 2050.
Project Aim
The aim of the LIFE TA NatAdapt SK project is to support and reinforce the technical, financial, and administrative structure and capacity to ensure effective preparation and submission of the Full Proposal LIFE SIP NatAdapt SK project. This project focuses on climate adaptation in:
- Agriculture
- Forestry
- Water management
- Natural environment and biodiversity
- Disaster risk management
- Human settlements
This will be done with the involvement of relevant partners under the overall coordination of the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic.
