Protecting and enhancing our natural capital while advocating sustainability governance on a national, regional (CEE) and EU level
CEEweb's 2024 Work Plan aims to enhance environmental advocacy and policy engagement in Central and Eastern Europe through biodiversity protection, sustainable farming, and participatory governance.
Projectdetails
Introduction
CEEweb's Work Plan, proposed under the LIFE NGO Operating Grant scheme for the year 2024, aims to build a framework for CEEweb, in collaboration with its 35 Central and Eastern European member organisations. The goal is to continue its active participation in the EU policy dialogue, as well as to keep supporting the implementation of the Union's environmental and climate objectives.
Objectives and Work Packages
Following the structure of our work in the past two years, we envision to do so along three main objectives, which also constitute our three Work Packages (WPs), in addition to our activities for organisational development. Our proposed activities in 2024 will focus on:
-
Protecting Natural Capital
Advocating better policies for biodiversity conservation, protected area management, and ecosystem restoration. This includes raising awareness on sustainable forestry, grasslands, and free-flowing rivers (WP2). -
Sustainable Farming Practices
Advocating sustainable farming practices with a food systems approach, promoting resilience thinking, nature-based solutions, and policies for improved disaster preparedness in urban environments (WP3). -
Governance and Policy-Making
Promoting and advocating governance structures and participatory policy-making methods for better progress towards sustainable development in the CEE region (WP4).
Organisational Development
With regard to developing our own organisation and membership, we aim to continue working on reinforcing CEEweb's role as an influential regional environmental NGO. This will be achieved through:
- Internal capacity-building
- Increased visibility
- Continued fundraising efforts
- Strengthening and diversifying our membership (WP1)
Unique Themes for 2024
In 2024, CEEweb will continue working on and introduce unique themes that are rarely covered by other NGOs in the CEE region. Among them are:
- Protecting and restoring soil biodiversity for healthy ecosystems and sustainable food production
- Applying resilience-thinking when addressing climate change-related urban challenges
- Deep adaptation
- Sustainability-proofing EU and CEE national policies
