Projectdetails

Introduction

The continuation of the European Green Deal (EGD) after the election cycle of May 2024 will determine its continued capacity to be a driver for systemic change. In these turbulent times, it is therefore of paramount importance to ensure that the EGD legacy is carried upon by the next EU institutions. Furthermore, it will be key to monitor whether EGD policies adopted are appropriately implemented.

Proposed Work Programme

Building on achievements under SGA1 and SGA2, IEEP proposes a work programme that fosters, promotes, and scrutinises the implementation of European sustainability policies in order to realise the full potential of the EGD fitting within the larger framework of SDGs.

Key Activities

Under SGA3, IEEP will continue to leverage its position in the knowledge sector to provide evidence-based recommendations to key stakeholders and decision makers, including:

  1. European Commission (EC)
  2. European Parliament (EP)
  3. Member States (MS)
  4. Civil society
  5. Private sector

We will stick to our six thematic areas aligned with the EGD and one cross-cutting thematic area focused on the entirety of the European Green Deal and cross-cutting instruments.

Milestones

Our new editions of the Green Deal Barometer, together with the EGD Implementation Tracker, will be key milestones in our work programme. These tools will provide decision makers with recommendations, while increasing the visibility of the EGD and encouraging scrutiny at the national level.

Support and Coordination

The thematic work will continue being supported internally for optimal outreach by our new Strategic Relations Team and the Operations Team. We will strengthen our network of sustainable think tanks across the EU (TSE) activities and will continue coordinating our strategic Think2030 platform activities.

Capacity Building

Under SGA3, IEEP will also build further capacity internally and within its networks, which are essential investments to efficiently foster science-based policy making in these challenging times for the EU.
