Institute for European Environmental Policy
IEEP aims to enhance the implementation of the European Green Deal by providing evidence-based recommendations and building capacity among stakeholders to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.
Projectdetails
Introduction
The European Green Deal is a potential driver for systemic change. It sets the pathway for Europe to become the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. However, there are significant barriers to its realization, including:
- Risks of watering down the Commission’s proposals’ ambition within co-decision.
- Weak or lack of implementation at the national level.
Project Overview
For this LIFE grant, IEEP proposes a work programme that promotes the shaping and implementation of European sustainability policies to align with and realize the ambitions of the European Green Deal (EGD), fitting within the larger framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Evidence-Based Recommendations
IEEP will leverage its position in the knowledge sector to provide evidence-based recommendations to key stakeholders and decision-makers, including:
- European Commission
- European Parliament
- Member States
- Civil society
- Private sector
Thematic Areas
We will work through six thematic areas aligned with the EGD, along with one cross-cutting thematic area focused on the entirety of the European Green Deal and cross-cutting instruments. This thematic work will be supported internally for optimal outreach by the continued development of our organization’s executive, external impact, and operations functions.
Partnerships and Collaboration
Our thematic work will be co-created and amplified externally through our growing partnerships, particularly with:
- Our Think Sustainable Europe network of European sustainability think tanks.
- Our Think2030 platform.
Capacity Building
SGA1 prepares the groundwork to promote evidence-based policymaking throughout the upcoming critical juncture brought on by the European elections and the change of the European Commission, occurring in this work programme’s SGA2 & 3.
Starting in SGA1, IEEP will build further capacity internally and within its networks of members. Meanwhile, during SGA1, the thematic work programmes will focus on:
- Gathering an evidence base.
- Supporting capacity building of key stakeholders both at EU and MS levels.
This is aimed at influencing co-decision around strategic files, such as the sustainable food legislative framework.
