Projectdetails

Introduction

The BETTED (Boosting Energy Transition of ThE Dairy value chain) project aims to facilitate companies (especially small and medium enterprises, SMEs) belonging to supply chains in the dairy sector to foster the market uptake of energy efficiency measures. This includes the use of renewables and the deployment of heat pumps at the value chain level. Moreover, the project will also significantly contribute to the reduction of fossil fuel dependency, fast-forwarding the energy transition.

Dairy Sector Overview

The dairy sector is predominantly organized in cooperatives, which hold the majority of the market share. This structure makes it relevant to emphasize the necessity for cooperation and coordination between different actors, thereby increasing the potential of a value chain approach.

Project Implementation

To achieve this integration, the project will implement capacity-building programs and steer companies and value chain decisions for energy saving, renewables, and heat pump adoption investments with supporting tools.

Focus Areas

To trigger interest, awareness, knowledge, and know-how on the energy efficiency and renewables and heat pumps potential from the supply chain perspective in the dairy sector, the project will focus on three main pillars:

  1. Capacity-Building Program: Create a capacity-building program and a community dedicated to supporting the change in the energy culture of organizations, improving their skills, knowledge, awareness, and know-how on the role of sustainable value chains in promoting the energy transition for both small and large companies.

  2. Tailored Tools: Implement tailored and easy-to-use tools engaging companies operating in the same value chain, aimed at:

    • Fostering the market uptake of energy efficiency and sustainable measures.
    • Assessing the multiple benefits achievable from collaborative approaches between large and small companies.
  3. Policy Recommendations: Provide policy and regulatory recommendations aiming at speeding up the energy transition.
