Introduction

Millions of tons of oil seeds and fruit seeds, especially their protein-rich presscakes, currently go to waste as they contain a too high amount of cyanogenic glycosides.

Problem Statement

As these naturally present substances are toxic at a certain level of consumption, these seed presscakes currently cannot enter the food industry and are, as a result, being disposed of.

Solution

Kern Tec has developed a process to remove these cyanogenic substances and therefore detoxify the seeds. This process upcycles these raw materials from waste to superfood.

Results

The results are food-safe seed presscakes that can be processed into a protein powder. This protein powder can be used as an ingredient in the food industry in various applications where plant-based proteins are demanded.
