Projectdetails

Introduction

The main objective of the project is to create a permanent management network for 116 Natura 2000 sites in Polish military areas. This initiative involves cooperation between the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Climate and Environment, the General Directorate for Environmental Protection, Regional Boards of Infrastructure, and other military and civil institutions that have an impact on the management of Natura 2000 sites.

We aim to update the data on natural habitats and species of plants and animals for the conservation of which Natura 2000 sites have been designated in military areas. Additionally, we seek to improve the system of data acquisition and management, enhance conservation measures for natural habitats and species, and generally improve nature conservation management procedures in military areas.

Main Objectives

The main objectives of the project are:

  1. Setting up a training and information centre for Natura 2000 management in military areas.
  2. Improving the capacity of regional military administration staff by implementing the training programme "Natura 2000 advisers."
  3. Reducing threats to natural habitats, e.g., due to the invasion of alien and expansive plant species.
  4. Strengthening the cooperation of military and civil institutions in the joint management of Natura 2000 sites.
  5. Supporting the management system of Natura 2000 sites, including the module on Natura 2000 in military IT systems.
  6. Conducting a natural inventory of military polygons, which includes updating standard data forms for Natura 2000 sites and mapping natural habitats.
  7. Implementing integrated monitoring of the conservation status of natural habitats and species in military areas.
  8. Facilitating cross-border exchange of experiences on nature conservation between military units, Natura 2000 site managers, stakeholders, and practitioners in military areas through an international working group "Nature Conservation in Military Areas" facilitated by Eurosite - the European Land Conservation Network.
  9. Launching an information campaign on nature conservation in military areas.
