Projectdetails

Introduction

EUROPARC represents a substantial proportion of Europe's nature conserved and managed areas. Our members have responsibility for almost 40% of the N2000 network alone, and our agency and administration members have oversight for all the national designated sites across 38 countries.

Objectives

Through the activities described in this work plan, EUROPARC will bring synergy and coherence across a broad range of EU policy areas. We aim to contribute actively, in line with the Green Deal priorities, to protect, conserve, and enhance EU natural capital in Protected Areas (PAs) and N2000 sites.

Work Packages Overview

Across 4 Work Packages, we will showcase EUROPARC members' expertise and input in the realization of the EU Biodiversity Strategy (EUBDS) and support the Natura 2000 network by:

  1. Increasing effectiveness
  2. Enhancing capacity
  3. Raising awareness of the importance and role of Protected Areas in policy development, implementation, and compliance.

Work Package Details

Work Package 1

Building on our organizational development in WP 1, Work Package 2 addresses Pillar 1 of the EUBDS. It also contributes to the development and implementation of EU and global targets for Protected Areas, including the Birds and Habitats Directives, especially in relation to Natura 2000.

Work Package 2

WP3 will address Pillar 2 of the EUBDS and will particularly contribute to the implementation of:

  • The EU Nature Restoration Law
  • The EU Bird and Habitats Directives
  • The EU pollinator policy (A new deal for pollinators, 2023)

Work Package 3

WP4 addresses Pillar 3 of the EUBDS and also some of the ambitions contained in the Council recommendation on learning for the green transition and sustainable development. These are delivered through the lenses of Protected Areas and Natura 2000 sites.

Funding Importance

The resources provided by the NGO grant are a vital means to strengthen our organization, providing strong governance and leadership. They offer valuable support for staff and sustain the policy and advocacy work leading to an improvement in the management effectiveness of PAs across Europe.
