Projectdetails

Introduction

The overall objective of COHEAT2 is to demonstrate, in the Region of Southern Denmark and its 22 municipalities, how concrete investments in energy renovations of residential buildings, the transition to a 100% green heating supply, and CO2 reductions of 70% by 2030 can be accelerated and implemented through novel business, technology, and replication models organized in sub-regional project development units (PDU).

Municipal Obligations

COHEAT2 aims to help municipalities cope with their huge obligation to ensure the green transition of the heating of buildings and households currently not connected to the district heating network, and buildings and households where district heating is not viable.

Approximately 100,000 houses and buildings in the Region of Southern Denmark have to change their heating source before 2030.

Project Focus

The project focus is on:

  1. Individual heat pumps
  2. Local heating where multiple buildings unite in a microgrid
  3. District heating

This will be combined with energy renovation of buildings to ensure that the transition to green heating incorporates an energy efficiency dimension.

Local Energy Planning

A local energy planning process will assure that the appropriate solutions are tailored to the local community context and linked to existing SECAP/SEAPs.

Expected Outcomes

COHEAT2 is envisaged to launch aggregated investments worth 31.9 MEUR (leverage factor: 21.5), resulting in:

  • Energy savings of 37,477 MWh
  • CO2 reductions of 6,742 tons

This will be achieved via the introduction of system solutions based on green technologies, community-oriented cooperative organization, and consumer-friendly services delivered through the project development units.

Sub-Regional Settings

COHEAT2 operates within three sub-regional settings made up of 7 investing municipalities, meaning areas where concrete investments in the transition to energy renovation of residential buildings and green heating will be launched, and 15 replicating municipalities (the remaining municipalities in Southern Denmark).

The replicating municipalities will follow the project, attend learning events, and have access to project results.

Consortium and Stakeholder Engagement

The consortium, led by the Region of Southern Denmark, will ensure project success through close cooperation with key stakeholders in the sector, including:

  • Municipalities
  • District heating companies
  • Energy advisers and experts
  • Consumers
