Projectdetails

Introduction

For offshore wind farms or coastal foundations, pile driving technique is often used. However, it generates a high level of noise, which severely damages—up to death—marine mammals, fishes, and other species.

Noise Mitigation Systems

Noise Mitigation Systems (NMS) exist but come with limitations:

  • High price
  • Weak acoustic efficiency
  • Poor performance in currents, waves, and varying depths

Innovative Solution

To fill these gaps, we develop an innovative and eco-designed NMS: the SSQ Pile Driving.

Technology Overview

It is based on the disruptive membrane Sub Sea Quieter, which consists of inflatable panels made of 3D-woven fabric, coated and sealed to ensure acoustic efficiency. This technology is the result of 5 years of R&D.

Design and Functionality

Designed like a sock, the SSQ Pile Driving is deployed closest to and around the pile thanks to a clever manipulation system.

Key Benefits

It aims to become the NMS technical reference due to:

  1. Very high acoustic mitigation efficiency
  2. Turbidity containment
  3. Cost-effectiveness—up to 5 to 10 times cheaper than existing NMS
  4. No need for extra vessels or cranes
  5. Adaptability to the most severe site conditions (waves, currents, depth)
