Projectdetails

Introduction

GBM has developed Vibrojet® as an urgently needed alternative for the hydraulic hammer currently used for the installation of offshore wind turbine foundations. The current method has increasingly faced difficulties in installing the much-needed larger wind turbines and in complying with stricter regulations.

Process Overview

Vibrojet® involves the whole monopile, including:

  • Vibrating it
  • Jetting the soil below the monopile
  • Creating a fluidized bed in the hollow monopile

This process is managed by a control system with a high-tech sensor network based on edge computing concepts using deep learning and artificial intelligence.

Benefits

Vibrojet® reduces the soil resistance temporarily to such an extent that the huge monopile sinks down silently and gently to the target depth under its own weight.

Compliance and Impact

Vibrojet® is compliant with regulations and is able to install the larger wind turbines very effectively. This innovation accelerates the rollout of offshore wind energy farms that are needed to enable the EU to achieve its Green Deal goals.
