Projectdetails

Introduction

b4b has patented and developed a highly novel wingsail based on aeronautics. This innovative design utilizes wind as a renewable energy source for propulsion, achieving significant reductions in fuel consumption.

Benefits

The wingsail technology offers the following advantages:

  • Reduces up to 30% of the fuel used in maritime transport, including:
    • Merchant vessels
    • Fishing vessels
    • Passenger vessels
  • Lowers operating costs for maritime operators.
  • Decreases the environmental impact of the maritime industry.
  • Complies with new International Maritime Organisation (IMO) regulations.
  • Aligns with the goals of the European Green Deal.

Product Variants

So far, the company has developed two patented types of wingsails:

  1. Foldable Wingsail:

    • More suitable for vessels with space and maneuverability restrictions.
  2. Suction-based Wingsail (eSAIL):

    • Suitable for vessels with no restrictions.
    • More affordable for smaller vessels, such as fishing vessels.
