Introduction

The SIP Project, “Implementation of the Waste Management Plan for the Pomorskie Voivodeship (PGOWP) taking into account the hierarchy of handling municipal waste and the principles of circular economy (GOZ)", will be coordinated by the Pomorskie Voivodeship, responsible for implementing the Waste Management Plan throughout the Pomorskie region.

Beneficiaries

The beneficiaries of the project are:

  • The Pomeranian Regional Development Agency JSC in Słupsk
  • The University of Gdańsk
  • The City of Gdańsk
  • The Pomorskie Tourist Board in Gdańsk
  • The Polish Zero Waste Association
  • 24 other Pomorskie municipalities
  • 2 municipal companies

The project's activities and outcomes will benefit all 123 municipalities in the Pomorskie Voivodeship and over 40 other entities. The project will cover the entire voivodeship.

Main Outcomes

The main outcome will be achieving a preparation rate for the reuse and recycling of municipal waste of at least 65%, as well as reducing the amount of municipal waste sent to landfills and the residues from their processing to no more than 10% of the total amount of municipal waste generated by 2035.

Key Activities

The key project activities include:

  1. Mobilization and coordination of complementary funds for the implementation of investments implementing PGOWP (including staff support).
  2. The Coordination and Support Center for local governments and entrepreneurs.
  3. Implementing a regional educational campaign that will reach approximately 8 million people.
  4. Supporting local governments within a substantive Circular Economy Centre of Competence.
  5. Supporting entrepreneurs in the implementation of investments through the Support Centre.
  6. Implementing a mobile application to prevent waste generation.
  7. Conducting research by scientists on the morphology of bio-waste in selected municipalities.
  8. Piloting a method for proper management of used fishing nets.

Project Timeline

The project period is from 2025 to 2035 in three phases:

  • Phase I: 4 years
  • Phase II: 3 years
  • Phase III: 3 years

Significance

This project is the first in Poland concerning the implementation of the waste management plan.
