Introduction

The main objective of the LIFE SUNIFIX project is to scale up and demonstrate NitroCapts paradigm-shifting, climate-neutral production process and to give the European industry access to efficient, innovative green technology offering the most competitive nitrogen fertilizers in large volumes.

Current Market Overview

Today's mineral nitrogen fertilizer production (Haber Bosch process) is an $80 billion market and accounts for 2.5% of the global fossil-based greenhouse gas emissions, representing a major greenhouse gas emission source of agriculture and food production.

SUNIFIX Technology

SUNIFIX (Sustainable Nitrogen Fixation) is a patented climate-neutral process for the fixation of nitrogen with air, water, and electricity as the only inputs.

Process Features

The process combines:

  • A novel, state-of-the-art energy-efficient reactor based on plasma technology
  • Cutting-edge electromagnetic energy coupling
  • Advanced turbine technology

Since the process has a competitive energy consumption and can operate intermittently, it can be powered directly by renewable electricity even with off-grid production units.

Local Impact

By creating a local self-sufficiency of affordable nitrogen fertilizers, uninfluenced by higher energy prices, the incentive will be significant for local companies to use our technology, and the potential impact will be enormous.

Project Goals

The LIFE SUNIFIX project aims to build up a pilot facility to validate the production components and systems at an industrially relevant scale (5% of full scale) and full operating conditions at a competitive production cost.

Collaboration

NitroCapt will demonstrate the technology together with three European associated partners from:

  1. Sweden
  2. Norway
  3. Luxembourg

Such a pilot approach will be a crucial part of replicating and scaling the SUNIFIX technology to other sites in Europe and globally.

Conclusion

We strongly believe that we can help the EC to reduce CO2 emissions in the agriculture sector by introducing this attractive, smart, resource- and energy-efficient fertilizer solution to the European and global market.
