Life AIs - See & Save
Life-AIs project utilizes 3D stereo vision and AI to optimize crop management, reducing agricultural inputs and greenhouse gas emissions while promoting sustainability across demo farms.
Projectdetails
Introduction
Experiencing the devastating effects of climate change and biodiversity loss, it is clear that significant change is needed now.
Project Overview
In Life-AIs, the agricultural machinery manufacturer FEDE and the agricultural IT service provider AGERPIX join forces to “See” crop characteristics with the help of 3D stereo vision and AI post-processing. In the sequel, information is used to adjust crop management practices and agricultural machinery accordingly, thereby significantly “Saving” on agricultural inputs such as:
- Pesticides
- Fertilizer
- Water
- Tractor Diesel
Alignment with Objectives
Aligned with the Green Deal, Farm-2-Fork, and LIFE objectives, Life-AIs - See & Save is deployed at three demo farms in grape, olive, and pistachio production. Input and know-how for its inherent early disease detection system comes from Wageningen University & Research.
Replication and Impact
Large scale, cross-sector, and cross-country replication is initiated during the 54-month duration, reaching three years later already 112,457 hectares.
Mapping agronomic input savings to LIFE Programme KPIs shows that over 604 tons of greenhouse gas savings can be materialized during the project, with savings quickly rising to 3,225 tons annually afterwards.
Triple Win
Therewith, Life-AIs See & Save is set to produce a triple win, contributing to:
- Farming efficiency
- A healthy planet
- Sustainable wealth and job creation
This strictly follows the motto:
Life-AIs: See & Save!
Consortium Changes
Partner 5.AGROSAO (888453847), as well as its affiliated entities 5.2 EUROSEM (885987622) and 5.1 REYES (888454817), have voluntarily decided to leave the consortium due to difficulties in complying with all their foreseen project tasks and obligations. No payment has been made to any of the leaving partners from the side of the coordinator, 1. FEDE, and a contract (uploaded as the "Opinion letter of the leaving beneficiary") was signed between the coordinator and the leaving partners in which they mutually agree to not claim anything from the other side. This contract was signed on the 15th of March 2023. The official exit date of 5.AGROSAO, 5.1.REYES, and 5.2.EUROSEM is set to "The entry into force of the Amendment."
Interim Measures
Moreover, to carry on with the project without major impact or delays, FEDE has, on an interim level, taken over some of the leaving parties' tasks. An amendment request has been prepared in which the newly found partner AGROPTIMUM (881437449) takes over the remaining leaving parties' tasks until project end. The effective starting date of 6.AGROPTIMUM as a new consortium member is established as "The entry into force of the Amendment."
