Demonstration of a disruptive, all-in-one water recirculation solution significantly reducing water and energy use in households, hotels, real-estate etc
The LIFE ReUseWATER project aims to demonstrate Orbital's innovative water recycling technology to significantly reduce water and energy consumption while promoting sustainable water use practices.
Projectdetails
Introduction
The main objective of the LIFE ReUseWATER project is to demonstrate Orbital’s paradigm-shifting water recycling technology to widen consumer access to innovative water consumption solutions. The ingenuity of Orbital’s solution is that it reuses the water instead of just reducing water use like other similar products. Orbital’s protected technology was founded out of a Mars Mission research project between NASA and Lund University.
Environmental Impact
In addition to saving significant amounts of water and energy, this will enable a paradigm shift, in the form of humanity breaking a thousand-year-old pattern of flushing toilets, taking a bath, etc., with the Earth's most precious resource, drinking water.
Technology Overview
The Orbital Bathroom features an internationally patented and unparalleled water repurification and recirculation technology. This technology is supported by Orbital Systems’ patented water multi-level filtration system, which utilizes unique water sensor capabilities and micro-filtering capabilities. This multi-step process allows the purification of water from any impurity regardless of particle size.
Water and Energy Savings
The Orbital Bathroom significantly reduces overall water consumption by:
- Reducing water consumption in the shower by up to 90%.
- Recycling 100% of the water from the tap to be utilized for flushing toilets.
In addition, the Orbital Bathroom significantly reduces energy consumption by reducing the energy needed for water heating in the shower by up to 80%.
Validation and Partnerships
Orbital’s protected technology has since 2015 been validated on a lab scale and through various application tests in relevant environments since 2020 (TRL 4-6). Orbital will demonstrate the “all-in-one” water recycling solution in partnership with three trial customers:
- Guldsmeden (BEN)
- Acrinova (AP)
- Klimapatenschaft Projekt (AP)
This will allow Orbital to gain insights necessary to ensure massive scale-up and commercialization to the Nordic and European markets (initially), thereby moving the process from TRL 6 to 8/9.
