Oceana in Europe FPA 2025-2026
Oceana in Europe aims to enhance ocean conservation and sustainable fisheries through science-based campaigns, stakeholder collaboration, and public engagement to combat climate change and biodiversity loss.
Projectdetails
Introduction
Oceana in Europe is exclusively focused on the ocean and dedicated to achieving measurable change by conducting specific, science-based campaigns with fixed deadlines and articulated goals. We work to improve, enforce, and fully implement ocean conservation and sustainable fisheries management principles and laws. All our work contributes to our larger vision of a healthy ocean, playing a vital role in addressing the challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and food security throughout the world.
Main Pillars of Work
Our main pillars of work in Europe are:
- Putting the ocean at the heart of decision making
- Defending sustainable fisheries management
- Eliminating Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing through transparency
- Building effectiveness of the Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) network in Europe
Addressing Gaps in Protection
Oceana's focus is to address gaps in effective protection and management, overcoming obstacles that hinder meaningful action while also identifying new solutions when needed. To achieve this, we collaborate with stakeholders at all levels, including the private sector and the general public, and work within existing frameworks to drive positive change.
External Outreach Approach
Oceana's external outreach approach combines awareness raising among a wide range of stakeholders and public engagement to achieve our multiyear goals. We also partner with European NGOs and global initiatives to leverage our voice on pressing ocean issues.
Communication Strategies
Furthermore, to enhance the visibility of our work, we communicate Oceana's ongoing work through:
- Media interviews
- Press releases
- Op-ed articles
- Audio-visuals
- Engaging events
Collaboration with Authorities
Lastly, we have access to relevant authorities and scientific institutions, such as ICES, ICCAT, Advisory Councils, NEAFC, OSPAR, and GFCM, amongst others.
