Introduction

The overall objective is to ensure a strong and dynamic network of Mediterranean Marine Protected Areas to support the effectiveness of their management and contribute to improving policies at European, Mediterranean, and international levels for a better marine environment.

Network Dynamics

A strong and dynamic network will rely on:

  • Good communication and relations between members, partners, and stakeholders
  • Well-functioning governance bodies
  • Sufficient and stable financial and human resources

Actions will be amplified by the strong involvement and leverage of members and the strengthened cooperation with MPA users and other networks of MPA managers.

Management Improvement

MedPAN will thus improve the management of MPAs by participating in the dissemination of information and good practices, notably through:

  1. Training activities
  2. Group work
  3. The improvement of available data

Policy Contribution

The network will also contribute to the improvement of European policies relating to MPAs by acting as a channel of transmission between:

  • Managers
  • Civil society
  • The European Commission

Global Cooperation

Finally, the network will participate in the improvement of MPA management policies at the Mediterranean and global level by:

  • Promoting cooperation between EU countries and other countries
  • Cooperating directly with other MPA networks
  • Participating in major international events

This overall objective of the project is to ensure a strong and dynamic network of Mediterranean Marine Protected Areas to support their management effectiveness and contribute to improving policies at European, Mediterranean, and international levels for a better marine environment.
