Introduction

The COVID crisis and the war in Ukraine have added complexity to the economic context: rising costs of materials, inflation, rising interest rates, etc. All these factors have had a major impact on the renovation market, adding barriers against action.

Project Objectives

To avoid market stagnation for deep energy retrofitting of housing, which could cause factories delivering prefabricated facades or roofs to slow down their activities, our project aims to organize smartly designed three-staged Net Zero energy retrofit buy-in schemes with multiple building owners, such as social housing organizations.

Stages of the Retrofit Scheme

  1. Stage 1: Dealing with prefabricated insulated facades installation.
  2. Stage 2: Dealing with prefabricated insulated & solar-powered roof systems.
  3. Stage 3: Dealing with energy system switch.

Consortium Overview

Our team is a complementary consortium from the Netherlands, Lithuania, France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, and Italy. We aim to explore the potential for coherent staged collective buy-in schemes, allowing us to organize waves of facade retrofits and waves of roof retrofits, ultimately reaching Net Zero in three tides of retrofit waves.

Main Directions of Work

We will focus on the following three main directions:

  1. Developing Renovation Tide Strategy Tools: These tools will help housing organizations standardize their tasks and achieve their decarbonization strategies, including:

    • Prioritizing buildings to address.
    • Targeting specific renovations.
    • Scheduling work over the next 25 years.
  2. Setting & Deploying LEAN Delivery Kits: These kits will support construction companies and the entire supply chain to achieve our goals in terms of the volume of retrofitted housing.

  3. Improving Contracts and Business Models: We aim to establish proper contracts and enhance business models for such renovation tides, enabling massive replication to achieve our renovation goals by 2050.
