Introduction
Energy cooperatives and energy communities can play an important role in the clean energy transition and renewable energy deployment. An innovative electricity provider in France, Enercoop, is supported by a network of cooperatives (10 Local Enercoop implanted in the regions) and develops local-oriented, renewable energy projects with direct citizen involvement.
Challenges Faced
However, energy cooperatives face various challenges, such as the time gap between renewable energy development activities and the revenue streams generated from the projects.
Project Overview
The Enercoop Production Bootstrap project (ENERPROD) aims to provide technical assistance to Local Enercoops and accelerate the deployment of citizen-led renewable energy projects by:
- Mutualising tools (sales models, processes, contract frameworks, funding, etc.) which will benefit all Enercoop projects.
- Providing additional operational assistance to the projects.
Project Development Support
This assistance will concern every stage of the project development pipeline, from prospection to exploitation. The project will benefit a pipeline of at least 120 renewable projects expected to generate more than 100 million EUR of renewable energy investments.
Dissemination of Knowledge
The tools and processes are intended to be exploited in France, and lessons learned will be disseminated through European networks of energy cooperatives.
