Boosting joint emergency energy efficiency 1st interventions
SaveEnergyTogether aims to empower decision makers to implement energy efficiency first interventions, generating significant energy savings and CO2 reductions through tested methodologies and pilot programs.
Projectdetails
Introduction
SaveEnergyTogether will – based on real-life experiences from large-scale national and local pilots involving over 6.6 million households – empower relevant decision makers across all levels of government to operationalize the EE1st principle for emergency energy efficiency first interventions (EEEIs).
Definition of EEEIs
EEEIs are defined as interventions that focus on behavioral changes as well as any EE1st measures that are characterized by little need for up-front investment by individuals and can thus be undertaken without reliance on scarce equipment and professionals.
Costs and Overlooked Aspects
Nevertheless, substantial costs can occur for those trying to enable them, such as:
- Running awareness campaigns
- Establishing local structures
- And so on
In the past, this has often been overlooked when developing EE1st methodologies.
Project Aims
The current project aims to close the gap by developing:
- New procedures
- Best practices
- Updated cost-benefit methodologies
- Monitoring and reporting schemes for EEEIs for households, small businesses, and building owners.
Pilot Implementation
To do so, the project will run dedicated, large-scale pilots under different conditions to:
- Test different approaches
- Gather data
- Develop blueprints based on these real-life activities.
These can then serve national and local decision makers and implementers beyond the project's lifetime, such as municipalities, local agencies, and national consumer organizations to operationalize EEEIs swiftly and effectively.
Consideration of Previous Work
SaveEnergyTogether is explicitly designed to take previous work on EE1st into account to develop methods, procedures, and monitoring/reporting schemes that will consider all dimensions of the EE1st principle (societal, environmental, public budget, and so on).
Expected Impact
With demonstrated support within the respective pilot countries, as well as across the EU, SaveEnergyTogether is expected to generate a lasting impact leading to:
- 100 GWh/year primary energy savings
- 23,200 t CO2-eq/year reduction
Additionally, it will indirectly enable substantial investment in local structures.
