Projectdetails

Introduction

Seaborg proposes a novel type of nuclear reactor called the "Compact Molten Salt Reactor (CMSR)". Our ambition is to use the CMSR to complement, and not substitute, other sustainable energy sources (like renewables) to accelerate the global decarbonization process.

Operating Principles

The CMSR works according to different principles than the existing nuclear power plants:

  • Safety by Design: The reactor is inherently safe due to the physics of nature; it cannot melt down or explode.
  • Reduction of Radioactive Waste: The goal is to recycle spent fuel waste to reduce footprint and storage.

Environmental Impact

The CMSR emits no greenhouse gases while operating and has the lowest resource use compared to all other energy sources, including renewables.

Economic Competitiveness

The CMSR outcompetes fossil fuels on free market terms:

  1. The Levelized Cost Of Electricity is about 50% that of coal.
  2. The Levelized Cost Of Electricity is about 70% that of gas.

Company Overview

Seaborg is the largest nuclear reactor start-up outside of North America, and it has patented technologies, prestigious partners, and pilot customers.
